What should you know about exercise for dizziness?

Short answer
Dizziness during exercise means you should stop safely, sit or lie down, correct possible fluid or food-related problems, and seek assessment when episodes recur or include warning signs.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Stop for
- Lightheadedness, spinning, imbalance, or unusual heartbeat
- Record
- Trigger, position, food, fluids, heat, and duration
Why dizziness may happen
Overheating, dehydration, holding your breath, standing suddenly, exercising without enough food, or pushing beyond your current fitness can make you lightheaded. A spinning sensation can point toward an inner-ear problem such as Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. Anaemia, Iron Deficiency Anaemia, low blood sugar, abnormal heart rhythm such as Atrial Fibrillation, and anxiety can also present with dizziness. The symptom does not identify one cause by itself.
Safer exercise steps
Stop moving and hold a stable surface before sitting or lying down. Move to a cool place, loosen clothing, sip fluids, and eat a suitable snack if you have missed a meal and can swallow safely. Rise slowly after symptoms settle. Exercise with a companion until the pattern is understood, avoid heights and machinery, and use gradual warm-ups and cool-downs. Heat Exhaustion and Dehydration need particular caution in hot weather. Record triggers, body position, food, fluids, and heartbeat sensations for your clinician.
When to get urgent help
Seek emergency help for fainting, chest pain, severe breathlessness, a new severe headache, one-sided weakness, facial drooping, trouble speaking, confusion, or a sustained irregular heartbeat. Arrange prompt medical advice when dizziness is new, recurrent, worsening, or causing falls, even if it settles with rest.
Questions for your doctor
Does the sensation suggest lightheadedness or vertigo? Could food, fluids, blood pressure, anaemia, medicines, or heart rhythm be involved? What activity and precautions are suitable now?
