Estrogen and type 2 diabetes: what to know

Estrogen influences how the body responds to insulin, how fat is stored, and how glucose is handled. During puberty, pregnancy, perimenopause, or menopause, changing hormone levels may make glucose readings or diabetes treatment needs shift. Sleep disruption, illness, stress, and changes in activity can also affect readings.
