What should you know about eruptive cherry angioma?

A cherry angioma is a cluster of tiny blood vessels close to the skin surface. It can look bright red, purple, or darker, and may be flat or slightly raised. Eruptive means that several appear around the same period; it does not by itself identify the cause. A clinician can distinguish typical angiomas from other red or pigmented lesions by examining colour, shape, surface, and behaviour.

Arrange a skin examination if many new spots appear, if an individual lesion looks different from the others, or if you are unsure what you are seeing. Photographing lesions in consistent lighting can help you notice change, but it cannot replace an examination. Avoid scratching or attempting to cut them off. If removal is wanted because of bleeding, catching on clothing, or appearance, options may include pulsed dye laser treatment or electrosurgery after diagnosis.

Seek prompt review for a spot that repeatedly bleeds, grows, changes colour, becomes painful, or develops an irregular border. Get urgent help for bleeding that will not stop with firm pressure. Sudden widespread skin changes accompanied by fever or feeling very unwell also need medical attention.

Ask whether the lesions have the typical appearance of cherry angiomas, whether any need closer examination, and which removal method fits their size and location. Discuss expected crusting, wound care, pigment changes, and signs of infection.
