EGFR wild-type NSCLC: what to know

NSCLC means non-small cell lung cancer. Wild type describes the EGFR result in the tested sample; it does not mean the tumour has no genetic changes at all. The result may reflect the limits of the sample or test as well as the tumour biology, so your clinician can explain whether broader profiling is appropriate.

Treatment is guided by stage, tumour location, symptoms, overall health, biomarkers, and personal goals. Options can include surgery, stereotactic body radiotherapy, immunotherapy, chemotherapy, or other combinations.

Ask which biomarkers were tested and whether the report is complete. Discuss whether the tumour can be removed, whether focused radiotherapy is suitable, and whether immunotherapy or chemotherapy fits the treatment aim. Bring a current medicine list and mention lung disease, autoimmune conditions, or previous cancer treatment because these can affect choices and monitoring.

Contact your care team for increasing breathlessness, chest pain, coughing blood, persistent fever, or difficulty eating and drinking. Sudden confusion, weakness, seizure, or a severe new headache needs urgent assessment. Treatment-related symptoms such as a new cough, diarrhoea, rash, or jaundice should be reported early.
