What should you know about edge linear accelerator?

The machine rotates around you while the treatment team positions your body using the plan made from scans. Beam direction, field shape and dose are adjusted to fit the target while limiting exposure to nearby tissue. You do not feel the radiation itself. The session is supervised from outside the treatment room, and imaging may be used to check alignment before delivery.

Attend the planning appointment and tell the team about implanted devices, difficulty lying still, pain, or trouble holding a position. Wear comfortable clothing and follow any instructions about food, fluids or medicines. During treatment, remain still and use the communication system if you need help. Ask when normal activities can resume, because advice depends on the treated area and other treatments.

Contact your oncology team about new or worsening symptoms after treatment, such as marked skin irritation, persistent vomiting, severe headache, unusual weakness, confusion, or difficulty breathing. Seek urgent help for sudden neurological changes, a seizure, collapse, or severe breathing trouble. The correct response depends on the body area treated and the reason for radiotherapy.
