Eczema on Palms: Home Remedies and Care

Short answer
Home care for eczema on the palms focuses on reducing irritants, restoring moisture, and protecting cracks from further friction.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why palms need special care
Palm skin is exposed to frequent washing, sanitiser, pressure and gripping. During an eczema flare it may feel rough, tight, itchy or sore, and can develop peeling, fissures or small fluid-filled blisters. Atopic dermatitis is one possibility; contact irritation, allergy, psoriasis and fungal infection can resemble it. Home measures may support the barrier, but they cannot confirm the cause or replace assessment when the pattern is persistent or unusual.
Gentle remedies to try
Use lukewarm water and a fragrance-free cleanser, then pat the palms dry. Apply a thick, unperfumed cream or ointment straight away and after each wash. At night, a moisturiser with soft cotton gloves may reduce rubbing while you sleep, provided the skin is not wet or infected. Wear protective gloves for cleaning, avoid direct contact with detergents, and take off rings if moisture collects beneath them. Skip lemon, vinegar, essential oils, bleach and abrasive scrubs because they can sting or worsen broken skin.
When home care is not enough
Arrange an appointment if the rash keeps returning, spreads beyond the palms, limits hand movement, disrupts sleep or does not improve with trigger avoidance. Seek prompt care for pus, increasing warmth, swelling, severe pain, red streaking or fever. Deep cracks, extensive blistering or a rash that is strongly one-sided may need a clinician to check for infection, allergy or a condition that requires a different treatment.
Questions for your doctor
Ask which moisturiser and prescription treatment are suitable, whether a contact allergy is suspected, how to cover fissures safely, and which household exposures should be changed.

Can hand sanitiser worsen eczema?
Alcohol-based products may sting irritated or cracked skin. When appropriate, wash gently with mild cleanser, dry carefully and moisturise afterwards.
