The easiest way to remove skin tags

Skin tags are soft, flesh-coloured or slightly darker growths that often hang from a narrow stalk. They commonly occur where skin rubs against skin or clothing, such as the neck, armpits, eyelids, or groin. A new growth that bleeds, changes quickly, becomes painful, or looks unlike your other skin tags may need a closer examination because not every bump is a skin tag.

A clinician can examine the growth and discuss removal based on its size, position, stalk, and your tendency to scar. Options can include sterile snipping, cryotherapy, or electrosurgery. Keep the area clean afterward and follow wound-care instructions. Do not cut, burn, tie, or apply wart-removal chemicals at home: these actions can cause bleeding, infection, burns, or a scar, and they may delay diagnosis of a different lesion. If the tag catches on jewellery or clothing, protect it from friction while arranging an assessment.

Book an assessment before removal if the growth is dark, firm, irregular, bleeding, painful, or rapidly changing. Seek prompt care for persistent bleeding, increasing warmth, pus, spreading redness, or fever after removal. A lesion near the eyelid, genital skin, or another delicate area is best handled by a trained clinician.
