Early signs of pregnancy with irregular periods

A cycle that varies makes a missed period harder to identify. Ovulation may happen earlier or later than expected, so pregnancy symptoms can appear without a predictable period date. Some people have no early symptoms, while others notice nausea, stronger sensitivity to smells, tiredness, frequent urination, breast changes, or mild lower-abdominal cramps. A negative result does not always settle the question if testing was early. Repeat the test after a short interval or arrange a blood test if your period remains absent or symptoms continue. Avoid starting or stopping medicines without checking their pregnancy safety.

Seek urgent care for severe or one-sided pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, fainting, marked dizziness, or shoulder-tip pain after a positive pregnancy test or when pregnancy is possible. These symptoms need prompt assessment because an ectopic pregnancy can be serious. Arrange routine care for repeated negative tests with no period, persistent irregular cycles, or troublesome symptoms; an assessment may include a pregnancy test, medication review, and checks for hormonal causes.
