What should you know about early hand foot and mouth?

Small red bumps may occur with Acne, Hormonal Acne, Perioral Dermatitis, Rosacea, Folliculitis, or Razor Bumps. Shaving, occlusive products, saliva, friction, and steroid creams can irritate the area. Acne may include blackheads or whiteheads, whereas perioral dermatitis often forms clusters around the mouth and may sting or burn. Rosacea can combine bumps with flushing. The location alone cannot identify one condition.

Wash gently with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser, keep hands away from the bumps, and pause new fragranced products, scrubs, and heavy occlusive creams. Do not squeeze or shave directly over inflamed skin. Note foods, lip products, toothpaste changes, masks, shaving, and any steroid cream that preceded the flare. Seek prompt medical advice for rapidly spreading redness, marked swelling, severe pain, pus, fever, eye involvement, or sores that affect eating or drinking. Arrange an assessment when bumps persist, recur, scar, or worsen after a steroid cream. Sudden facial swelling or breathing difficulty requires urgent help.
