A flare may begin on one hand or foot and then affect nearby or matching areas, including both hands or both feet. However, a rash moving quickly beyond the usual palms, fingers, soles, and toes, or a change to marked redness and crusting, may point to infection, contact dermatitis, fungal disease, or another diagnosis. Itchy feet and skin blisters are symptoms with several possible explanations.

Do not share creams, towels, or tools used on broken skin until the diagnosis is clear, and avoid scratching or bursting blisters. Wash gently, dry carefully between fingers and toes, and apply a plain emollient to protect the barrier. Keep feet cool, change damp socks, and use gloves for wet work. Photographing the rash as it changes can help a clinician compare new areas with the first site. Prescribed topical corticosteroids may calm inflammation; persistent disease may prompt discussion of narrowband UVB phototherapy.

Seek medical advice if blisters are appearing rapidly, the rash is extending beyond the hands or feet, or symptoms are disrupting sleep or walking. Get prompt care for fever, pus, yellow crusts, spreading warmth or redness, swelling, or a sudden increase in pain. These signs require assessment for infection or a different skin condition rather than assuming the eczema has simply spread.
