Right flank pain sits between the ribs and hip, toward the side or back. A sore area that changes with bending, reaching, or pressing may be from the abdominal wall, back, or side muscles. Pain with burning urination, frequent urges, cloudy urine, or blood in the urine points attention toward the urinary tract. Kidney infection presents with flank pain and can also bring fever, chills, nausea, or a generally ill feeling. Kidney stones may cause pain that comes in waves and travels downward, though symptoms vary. Pain nearer the front or lower abdomen can have other causes, so the right-sided location is not a diagnosis.
