Dry skin on eyelid that won't go away

Eyelid skin is thin and can react to cleansers, makeup, eye drops, hair products, dust, or rubbing. Dryness may feel tight, flaky, itchy, or sting. Asteatotic Eczema can cause cracked, dry skin, while Atopic Dermatitis and Psoriasis may involve the eyelids. The symptom alone does not identify one cause.

Pause new eye cosmetics and fragranced products, and avoid scrubbing or peeling flakes. Wash with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser, then pat dry. Apply a plain emollient around the eyelid without getting it into the eye. Do not start steroid or medicated creams close to the eye unless a clinician has advised the product and duration.

Arrange a medical review if the dryness persists despite gentle care, keeps returning, or affects one eyelid repeatedly. Seek prompt care for eye pain, marked swelling, vision change, light sensitivity, pus, spreading redness, or a blistering rash.

Ask whether contact irritation, eczema, psoriasis, infection, or an eye-surface problem fits the pattern. Mention every product touching the area, when symptoms began, and whether itching, swelling, discharge, or vision symptoms occur.
