Dry itchy skin on the face

Cold or dry air, hot water, over-cleansing, exfoliation, and active skincare ingredients can remove protective oils. Itching with fine scaling may fit irritation or Atopic Dermatitis; a sharply outlined rash after a new product may fit Contact Dermatitis. Thickened plaques can occur with Psoriasis, while swelling or raised transient areas may resemble Hives. The eyelids, lips, and skin around the nose are especially sensitive, and the appearance alone cannot confirm a diagnosis.

Pause new or fragranced products, scrubs, acids, retinoids, and essential oils. Cleanse with lukewarm water and a gentle fragrance-free product, then apply a bland moisturizer while the skin is still slightly damp. Use sunscreen that does not sting, and avoid picking or rubbing flaky areas. Do not put steroid or antifungal creams near the eyes or on the face unless a clinician has selected the product and duration.

Get urgent help if facial swelling affects the lips, tongue, throat, or breathing. Arrange prompt review for eye pain, vision change, spreading warmth, pus, fever, painful blisters, or a rash that is rapidly worsening. Make an appointment when symptoms persist, recur with products, or leave dark marks or thickened skin.

Ask which ingredients to avoid, whether patch testing could help, and whether the eyelids, scalp, or other sites suggest a wider inflammatory condition.
