What should you know about dry bumpy skin?

Small bumps may feel rough because dry scale collects around follicles or because the skin is reacting to an irritant. Red, itchy, cracked patches can occur with Atopic Dermatitis or Asteatotic Eczema, while thicker, sharply bordered scale can occur with Psoriasis. The location matters: bumps on the upper arms or thighs may differ from a new rash on the trunk, hands, or face. A photograph and examination can clarify the pattern.

Use a short lukewarm wash and a fragrance-free cleanser only where needed. Apply a rich moisturiser soon after patting dry, repeating when the skin feels tight. Do not scrub, scratch, or squeeze the bumps; rough exfoliation can create inflammation and small breaks. Choose loose, breathable clothing and pause newly introduced fragranced products. If ordinary care does not improve the texture, ask about Emollient Therapy or another treatment suited to the cause.

Book an assessment if the bumps spread, become painful, ooze, crust, bleed, or interfere with sleep. Prompt review is also sensible for a rapidly changing rash, facial swelling, or symptoms that began after a new medicine or product.
