Does vertebroplasty treat vertebral compression fracture?

Vertebroplasty is a minimally invasive procedure in which a specialist guides a needle into a fractured vertebra and injects medical bone cement. The cement hardens inside the bone and may help stabilise the fracture and reduce pain in carefully selected cases. It does not restore every change caused by a fracture or replace assessment of bone health. The decision depends on the fracture’s age and appearance, pain severity, examination findings, and response to other care.

A spine specialist reviews your symptoms and imaging before recommending the procedure. Tell the team about medicines, allergies, bleeding problems, infection symptoms, and any numbness or weakness. Ask what non-procedural options are appropriate, how activity should be limited, and how osteoporosis or another underlying cause will be addressed. If vertebroplasty is chosen, you will receive instructions about preparation, observation, and follow-up.

Before or after treatment, urgent medical attention is needed for new leg weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, severe worsening pain, fever, or increasing redness or drainage at a procedure site. Sudden breathing difficulty, chest pain, or fainting also requires emergency help. These symptoms are not expected recovery discomfort and need immediate assessment.
