Does tumour removal surgery treat melanoma?

Melanoma is a cancer of pigment-producing cells. Surgery removes the visible lesion and a surrounding margin. The laboratory report describes features that help the team decide whether the initial operation is enough or whether additional treatment or testing should be discussed.

The margin and any further procedure depend on the melanoma's depth, site, and other findings. Nearby lymph nodes may be assessed in some situations.
