Does spirometry treat COPD?

COPD can cause persistent airflow limitation, with symptoms such as breathlessness, cough and mucus. Spirometry involves breathing through a mouthpiece into a measuring device. Your clinician may look at the volume and speed of exhaled air and repeat the test after a bronchodilator. The result is interpreted with your symptoms, examination and smoking or occupational history; it is not a treatment and cannot reverse airway damage during the appointment.
