Does sinusitis cause blocked nose?

Sinusitis inflames the lining around the nose and sinuses. Swelling reduces the space for air, while thicker mucus may not drain easily. You may notice congestion on one or both sides, facial pressure, reduced smell, a runny nose, or mucus draining into the throat. Symptoms can follow a cold or flare with allergies.

A clinician can assess complications and distinguish sinusitis from other causes of facial or nasal symptoms.
