Does RF microneedling treat acne scars?

RF microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled channels while delivering radiofrequency energy at a chosen depth. The healing response can encourage collagen remodelling and make some depressed scars look less deep or uneven. Rolling and some boxcar scars may respond more readily than sharply narrow ice-pick scars or raised scars, which may need another approach. Existing scars are not erased, and active inflamed acne, infection, or a tendency to form thick scars can change whether treatment is appropriate.

Choose a qualified clinician who can classify each scar rather than treating the whole face with identical settings. Discuss active acne control, skin tone and pigment sensitivity, the treatment depth, numbing, expected redness, aftercare, sun avoidance, and the likely need for more than one visit. Post-treatment redness and swelling can occur, but contact the clinic if pain intensifies, redness spreads, pus appears, blisters develop, or a wound is not settling. Seek assessment for new dark or light patches that persist, or for raised scar tissue that continues to grow. Active acne flares should be managed before further scar treatment.
