Does prostatitis cause urinary urgency?

You may feel that you must find a toilet quickly, pass only a small amount, or wake during the night to urinate. Prostatitis may also cause burning, pelvic or lower-back discomfort, a weak stream, hesitancy, or pain with ejaculation. Some people have fever and chills when the inflammation is linked with an infection. Urinary urgency can have several explanations, including bladder irritation or a urinary tract infection, so it does not identify prostatitis by itself.

Keep a brief record of when urgency occurs, how often you urinate, whether burning or fever is present, and whether you can empty your bladder. Book a medical appointment if the symptom is new, persistent, or interfering with sleep or daily activities. A clinician may review your history, examine you, and request a urine test. Avoid delaying care or using someone else’s medication.

Get urgent help if urgency is accompanied by fever, shaking chills, vomiting, confusion, severe pelvic pain, or inability to pass urine. A blocked urinary flow or rapidly developing infection can require prompt treatment. Seek emergency help if you become faint, severely unwell, or unable to keep fluids down.
