Does follow-up after cancer treatment treat MGUS?

MGUS means an abnormal monoclonal protein has been found, without the organ damage used to define a related blood cancer. Monitoring may include blood tests, a symptom review, and examination. These checks do not remove the protein or cure MGUS. They help the clinician decide whether the pattern remains stable or whether another explanation or investigation should be considered. The schedule is tailored to your results and health history.

Attend blood-test and review appointments, and ask which results are being followed. Tell your clinician about persistent bone or back pain, unusual tiredness, repeated infections, numbness, swelling, changes in urination, or unexplained bruising. Keep a current list of medicines and supplements. Ask who should receive your results and what symptoms should trigger an earlier review.

Seek urgent care for severe breathlessness, chest pain, sudden confusion, marked weakness, inability to pass urine, or heavy bleeding. Contact your clinician promptly for new persistent bone pain, recurrent infection, worsening fatigue, or swelling. These symptoms can have several causes but should not wait for routine monitoring.
