Does nail surgery treat nail fungus?

Nail fungus is a fungal infection affecting the nail or the tissues beneath it. Removing a thick or painful nail can make the toe easier to care for and may allow a clinician to inspect the nail bed. It does not, by itself, reliably remove fungal organisms from every affected area. A clinician may take a clipping or other sample before treatment because injury, psoriasis, repeated pressure, and other nail conditions can resemble fungus.
