Does migraine cause blurred vision?

Migraine-related visual symptoms may include fuzzy sight, shimmering areas, zigzag lines, or a patch of missing vision. They can develop gradually, affect one or both eyes, and settle as the episode passes. A visual aura may occur before head pain, with it, or without a headache. Because blurred vision also has eye, nerve, circulation, and medication-related causes, the timing and exact pattern matter.

Stop driving and move away from bright screens while your sight is unclear. Rest in a quiet, dim room, drink water, and note when the change began, how long it lasted, and whether it affected one eye or both. Use a migraine treatment already recommended for you as directed. Arrange a clinical assessment if this is a new pattern, keeps returning, or does not resolve.

Seek urgent medical help for sudden or persistent vision loss, a curtain-like shadow, severe eye pain, a new severe headache, weakness, numbness, trouble speaking, confusion, fainting, fever with a stiff neck, or symptoms after a head injury. These features need prompt assessment rather than being assumed to be migraine.
