Does meningitis cause headache?

Rest in a quiet setting while arranging care, but do not rely on pain relief to decide that serious symptoms have resolved. Follow the clinician's advice about testing and observation.

Call emergency services for a sudden explosive headache, severe headache with stiff neck or fever, confusion, difficulty waking, seizure, weakness, trouble speaking, repeated vomiting, or a new rash. Emergency care is also needed after a head injury when the headache worsens or alertness changes. Do not leave a confused or very sleepy person alone while help is arranged.
