Does liver function test treat alcohol use disorder?

A liver function test is a group of blood measurements used to assess how the liver is working and whether liver cells or bile flow may be affected. The results do not measure motivation, diagnose every aspect of alcohol use disorder or remove alcohol-related harm.

Treatment for alcohol use disorder may include a confidential discussion, withdrawal planning, counselling, peer support and prescribed medicines when appropriate. The safest plan depends on how much and how often you drink, previous withdrawal symptoms, other health conditions and your goals. Do not stop heavy or regular drinking suddenly without medical guidance, because withdrawal can become dangerous.
