Does IPL photofacial help with skin redness?

Intense pulsed light uses a range of light wavelengths. Certain settings are absorbed by blood in superficial vessels, which can make diffuse redness or small visible vessels look less noticeable as the skin settles. Results vary with the cause of redness, the depth and size of vessels, skin tone, and the settings used.

Redness can also come from rosacea, eczema, irritation, infection, sun exposure, or another condition. IPL does not diagnose these causes, and treating unexplained redness first may prevent an unsuitable procedure. Temporary warmth, swelling, darkening of treated spots, or irritation can follow a session.

Have the redness assessed by a qualified clinician before booking IPL. Share your medical history, recent tanning, tendency to scar, medicines that increase light sensitivity, and any active rash or skin infection. Avoid treating recently tanned or sunburned skin unless your clinician specifically advises otherwise.

After treatment, use gentle skin care and protect the area from sunlight as directed. Do not pick at darkened or crusted spots. Ask which products to pause and when they can be restarted, because strong exfoliants or irritating products may worsen inflammation.

Seek medical assessment for redness that is rapidly spreading, hot, painful, swollen, blistered, associated with fever, or accompanied by breathing difficulty or facial swelling. After IPL, contact the treating clinic promptly for severe pain, blistering, marked swelling, or a reaction that is worsening rather than settling.
