Does Hodgkin lymphoma cause persistent itching?

Itching linked with Hodgkin lymphoma may occur without a visible rash and can affect a broad area of skin. It may be related to immune signals released by the lymphoma. Some people also notice enlarged lymph nodes, drenching night sweats, fever, tiredness, or unexplained weight loss, but symptoms vary.

Persistent itching by itself cannot identify its cause. Dry skin, eczema, allergy, medicines, liver or kidney problems, and other conditions can also produce ongoing itch. A clinician may examine your skin, ask about other symptoms and medicines, and arrange blood tests or further assessment when appropriate.

Arrange a medical review if itching continues, disturbs sleep, affects daily activities, or has no clear trigger. Keep a note of when it began, where it occurs, whether a rash is present, and what makes it better or worse. Use gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser and avoid hot showers or scratching until you are assessed. If Hodgkin lymphoma has already been diagnosed, tell the oncology team about any change.

Seek prompt care for itching with facial swelling, trouble breathing, blistering skin, a rapidly spreading rash, fever, or marked weakness. These features can signal an urgent allergic or medical problem. Arrange timely assessment for persistent itching with night sweats, a lasting lump, repeated fever, or unexplained weight loss; these symptoms need evaluation and do not establish a diagnosis on their own.
