Does hepatitis C cause fatigue?

Hepatitis C can cause ongoing liver inflammation and changes in the way the body processes nutrients and waste. That may contribute to low energy, reduced concentration, poor sleep, or a heavy feeling in the body. Fatigue can also be related to anaemia, thyroid problems, mood, medication effects, or another illness, so tiredness alone cannot identify its cause. Some people with hepatitis C have no obvious symptoms.

If fatigue is persistent, worsening, or affecting work and daily activities, arrange an appointment. Tell the clinician when it began, whether rest helps, how you sleep, and which medicines or supplements you take. Assessment may include hepatitis C testing, liver blood tests, and checks for other causes of tiredness. Pace demanding tasks, keep a regular sleep routine, eat regularly, drink enough fluids, and use gentle activity as tolerated rather than pushing through marked exhaustion.

Seek urgent care if fatigue comes with confusion, fainting, severe weakness, vomiting that prevents drinking, yellow skin or eyes, swollen abdomen, vomiting blood, or black stools. Contact a clinician promptly for rapidly worsening symptoms or new breathlessness. These warning signs may indicate significant illness and should not be explained away as ordinary tiredness.
