Does diabetes screening treat type 2 diabetes?

Screening is an assessment, usually involving a blood sample. It can indicate that glucose is above the expected range and may lead to further testing. If type 2 diabetes is diagnosed, the result helps guide care but does not lower glucose on its own. Some people have symptoms such as thirst, frequent urination, tiredness, blurred vision, or slow-healing wounds, while others feel no obvious change.

Management may include food and activity changes, glucose monitoring, tablets, injections, or other measures selected with a clinician. The plan can change as your glucose, other health conditions, and medicines change. Do not start, stop, or alter diabetes medicine based on a screening result alone.
