Does cyst removal treat scalp cyst?

A pilar cyst, also called a trichilemmal cyst, develops from a hair-follicle structure and commonly appears on the scalp. It may feel firm, smooth, and mobile beneath the skin. Removal usually focuses on taking out the contents and the cyst wall through a small procedure, which helps address the structure that forms the lump.

A sore, red, swollen, or recently ruptured cyst may need a different plan. Drainage can relieve pressure when inflammation is present, while definitive removal may be considered after the area settles. A scalp lump can have other causes, so an examination is needed before treatment.
