Can custom orthotics treat limb length discrepancy?

A leg length difference can come from the bones, the position of the pelvis, or how the feet contact the ground. An in-shoe lift or shaped insert can make loading feel more even when the difference is small or when foot posture adds to the imbalance. The correction must match the measured difference and your walking pattern; too much lift can create new strain at the ankle, knee, hip, or back.

They may compare leg length, observe walking, check hip and ankle movement, and examine your shoes. If an orthotic is recommended, introduce it gradually and report pressure, numbness, worsening pain, or a change in balance. Supportive footwear with enough room for the device can improve comfort.
