Does cubital tunnel syndrome cause elbow pain?

The ulnar nerve travels through a narrow passage behind the inner elbow. Irritation can cause aching or sensitivity at that spot, often alongside tingling toward the forearm and hand. Leaning on the elbow or keeping it bent for a long time may aggravate symptoms. Pain on the outer elbow, pain linked to gripping, or pain after a direct injury may point to a different or additional problem.

Avoid resting the inner elbow on a desk or armrest and take breaks from prolonged bending. Keep track of whether pain occurs with numbness, tingling, weakness, gripping, or neck movement. A clinician can examine the elbow, neck, wrist, sensation, and strength to identify the source and suggest protection, exercises, or further testing.

Arrange prompt care after a significant injury, sudden loss of strength, marked swelling, redness, fever, or inability to move the elbow normally. Seek assessment if pain persists with increasing numbness, clumsiness, or difficulty holding objects.

Ask whether the pain follows the ulnar nerve, whether another elbow structure is involved, what activities to modify, and whether nerve testing or imaging would change treatment.
