Does a trichology perform PRP for hair loss?

PRP treatment uses a small sample of your blood. The sample is processed to concentrate platelets, and the prepared plasma is injected into selected scalp areas. A trichology team may assess the scalp, discuss the likely cause of hair loss and organise a treatment plan, but the injector’s medical training and the clinic’s hygiene practices are central.

PRP is not suitable for every type of hair loss. A consultation should distinguish ongoing shedding, patterned thinning, scarring conditions and scalp inflammation. The clinician should explain what the treatment can and cannot address, how many visits may be considered and how response will be monitored.

Ask who will draw blood, prepare the PRP and inject the scalp. Confirm the clinician’s qualifications, sterile equipment, consent process and plan for managing dizziness, bleeding or infection. Share medicines that affect clotting, blood disorders, allergies, pregnancy status and any active scalp infection.

Bring photographs or previous medical notes if hair loss has changed over time. Discuss alternatives and whether testing or treatment for an underlying condition should come first. Follow instructions about washing the scalp and medicines before and after the appointment.

Contact the clinic for increasing pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, persistent bleeding or marked swelling after injections. Seek urgent help for fainting that does not settle, breathing difficulty or swelling of the face and throat. Rapid shedding, bald patches or a painful, scaly scalp needs assessment rather than repeated injections without a diagnosis.

Ask what type of hair loss you have, why PRP is being considered, who will inject you, how the preparation is handled and how progress will be reviewed. Ask what symptoms mean you should stop treatment and seek an examination.
