Does radiology perform a tubal dye test?

During hysterosalpingography, a clinician places a speculum, passes a thin tube through the cervix, and introduces contrast into the uterus. X-ray images show the shape of the uterine cavity and whether contrast passes through the fallopian tubes. The radiologist performs or supervises the imaging part, while a gynaecologist or fertility clinician may arrange the test and interpret it alongside your reproductive history.

The service will advise when in your menstrual cycle to attend and whether pregnancy must be excluded. Tell the team about possible pregnancy, pelvic infection symptoms, allergies to contrast, and medicines. Ask how to manage cramping and whether you need someone to accompany you. Follow the clinic's instructions about pain relief and eating before the procedure.

Contact the clinic before the test if you may be pregnant or have fever, unusual discharge, or significant pelvic pain. Afterward, seek medical advice for fever, worsening pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, faintness, or feeling increasingly unwell.
