Does a physiotherapy perform dry needling?

Dry needling uses a fine sterile needle inserted into selected muscle or connective-tissue areas, often to address a sensitive or tight region. The physiotherapist should explain the target, expected sensations and alternatives before starting. It is commonly paired with mobility work, strengthening, manual treatment or advice about activity. Mild soreness or a small bruise can follow. Dry needling is not the same as acupuncture, and the clinician should clarify the technique and reason for recommending it.

Tell the physiotherapist about blood-thinning medicines, bleeding disorders, pregnancy, infection, reduced immunity, allergies, fainting with needles and any implanted device or recent operation. Eat and drink normally unless told otherwise, wear accessible clothing, and remain still during insertion. Ask what activity is suitable afterward. Report unusual pain, persistent bleeding, dizziness or symptoms that feel different from expected soreness.

Seek emergency help for sudden breathing difficulty, chest pain, fainting that does not quickly settle, or new severe weakness. After needling near the chest or upper back, new breathlessness or chest pain needs urgent assessment. Contact a clinician promptly for increasing redness, warmth, swelling, pus, fever, or bleeding that does not stop with pressure.
