Does orthopaedic surgery perform robotic knee replacement?

Robotic knee replacement is still performed and controlled by the orthopaedic surgeon. Before or during surgery, the system helps create a plan based on the knee's anatomy and movement. During the operation, guidance can help the surgeon position instruments and components according to that plan. The robot does not independently decide what to do or replace the need for clinical judgement. Whether this approach suits you depends on the knee damage, alignment, mobility, medical history, and the surgeon's assessment.

Describe pain, stiffness, walking limits, sleep disruption, and treatments already tried. Ask whether your symptoms and scans show a reason for replacement and whether robotic assistance changes the planned approach. Discuss exercise before surgery, home arrangements, walking support, wound care, blood-clot prevention, and physiotherapy. Recovery is gradual; bending, walking, driving, and work usually return according to healing and the rehabilitation plan rather than the presence of the robotic system alone.

After surgery, contact the care team urgently for increasing redness, wound drainage, fever, severe calf swelling, sudden breathlessness, or chest pain.
