Does a clinical psychology perform mental health assessment?

The psychologist may discuss your current symptoms, how long they have been present, sleep, mood, thoughts, relationships, work or study, physical health, medicines, alcohol or substance use, and relevant past experiences. They may use questionnaires or other structured tools alongside conversation. The assessment is not simply a test result: it brings together your history, daily functioning, strengths, and safety concerns. It can help clarify whether psychological therapy, medical review, practical support, or monitoring is appropriate.

Write down the changes that led you to seek help, examples of how they affect daily life, and any questions about confidentiality. Bring medicine details and, if you wish, a trusted person who can help you remember information.
