Do's and don'ts after an anti-rabies vaccine for dogs

Mild tiredness, tenderness, or a small swelling where the injection was given can occur after vaccination. The dog may prefer quiet activity while feeling unsettled. These effects should be monitored rather than ignored, and the clinic's instructions take priority because the dog's age, health, vaccine product, and previous reactions matter. Vaccination reduces rabies risk but does not replace responsible handling or veterinary follow-up.

Do keep fresh water available, offer the usual food if wanted, and check the injection area without pressing or rubbing it. Keep the vaccination record and note the product and date. Do follow the veterinarian's advice about exercise and future doses. Do not give human painkillers, apply creams, bathe the dog if the clinic advised against it, or arrange strenuous activity without veterinary guidance. Contact the veterinary clinic for worsening pain, a rapidly enlarging lump, repeated vomiting, marked weakness, or behaviour that concerns you. Keep the dog safe and avoid close contact with its mouth if it is distressed.
