What should you know about diverticulitis in large intestine?

The large intestine absorbs water and stores stool. Small pouches can form in its wall; these are diverticula. When a pouch becomes inflamed, the result is diverticulitis. Pain may be felt in the lower abdomen, but the exact location varies with the bowel segment involved and with each person’s anatomy. Constipation, diarrhoea, nausea or fever may occur, although symptoms can overlap with other abdominal conditions.
