What should you know about diode pumped yag laser?

Diode-pumped describes the energy source inside the machine. YAG refers to the solid crystal used to generate the laser beam. This wording does not identify one single procedure: the clinical use is determined by the wavelength, pulse duration, spot size and target tissue.

Laser light may be selected to interact with hair pigment, vascular colour or another intended target. The same broad technology can therefore be used in different ways, and a device name should not replace a consultation about your concern and skin characteristics.

Tell the clinician about recent tanning, a tendency to develop prolonged dark or light marks, medicines that affect light sensitivity, cold sores near the treatment area and any active skin inflammation. Ask what the laser is treating and why its wavelength was chosen for you.

On the day, the area is usually cleaned and the eyes are protected. Cooling may be used according to the device and body site. Follow the clinic's instructions afterward, including gentle cleansing, avoiding intentional sun exposure and pausing irritating products if advised.

Get in touch with the clinic if pain is increasing rather than settling, blisters or open areas appear, or swelling interferes with normal activity. After treatment near the eyes, seek urgent assessment for vision change or severe eye discomfort. Spreading redness, drainage or fever also warrants medical review.

What does YAG mean for the treatment I am considering? Which tissue is the target, and what wavelength will be used? What signs after treatment are expected, and which ones require an examination? How will recent tanning or my history of pigmentation change the plan?
