Short answer

Diarrhea, nausea, fatigue, and loss of appetite can accompany infection or digestive irritation; replace fluids and arrange care if symptoms are severe or persistent.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Possible explanations

Gastroenteritis, Influenza, and COVID-19 can present with fatigue and reduced appetite as well as digestive symptoms. Gastritis and Peptic Ulcer may cause nausea, upper-abdominal discomfort, and reluctance to eat. Hepatitis A can affect appetite and energy while causing digestive upset. Depression can change appetite and energy, although new diarrhea still deserves a physical assessment. Pancreatic Cancer can present with digestive or appetite changes, but these symptoms are not specific and do not establish a diagnosis. Recent food, travel, sick contacts, medicines, fever, pain, and weight change help a clinician interpret the pattern.

Steps that may help

Sip water or an oral rehydration drink regularly. If food feels unappealing, take small nourishing portions when able, such as soup, toast, rice, yogurt, or fruit that you tolerate. Rest and avoid alcohol. Keep a simple record of stool frequency, urine, temperature, pain, and what stays down. Continue essential medicines unless a clinician tells you otherwise, but ask promptly about medicines that may irritate the stomach or affect bowel movements. Wash hands well and avoid sharing food or utensils if an infection is possible.

Warning signs

Get urgent medical help for confusion, fainting, severe weakness, severe or increasing abdominal pain, blood or black stool, repeated vomiting, or inability to keep fluids down. Seek prompt advice for yellow skin or eyes, very little urine, a high fever, breathing difficulty, or symptoms that continue without improvement. Arrange an appointment when appetite and energy remain low, diarrhea keeps returning, or unplanned weight loss develops. People who are pregnant, older, very young, or living with a long-term illness may need earlier assessment.

Useful questions

Ask whether your symptoms fit an infection, stomach irritation, a medicine effect, or another problem. Ask how to maintain nutrition and hydration, whether testing is needed, and which symptoms should prompt immediate help.
