Diarrhea and Headache Without Fever

Loose stools remove water and salts from the body. That change can trigger a headache, thirst, dry mouth, darker urine, tiredness, or light-headedness even when there is no fever. A short-lived stomach infection or food intolerance may also cause diarrhea. Headache can have a separate trigger, such as poor sleep, stress, or missed meals. No fever does not identify the cause and does not rule out illness.

Take frequent small sips of water and consider an oral rehydration drink if stools are frequent. Eat small portions of plain, easy-to-digest food as your appetite returns, and avoid alcohol and foods that clearly worsen symptoms. Rest in a cool room, wash your hands carefully, and record stool frequency, urine changes, recent foods, travel, and medicines. Do not take an anti-diarrhea medicine if you have blood in the stool or severe abdominal pain without medical advice.

Seek urgent medical help for confusion, fainting, inability to keep fluids down, very little urine, severe weakness, a sudden severe headache, stiff neck, or new trouble speaking, seeing, or moving. Arrange prompt assessment for blood or black stool, significant abdominal pain, worsening dehydration symptoms, or diarrhea that is not settling. In the UAE heat, move indoors and seek help sooner if fluid loss follows prolonged heat exposure. A clinician can assess hydration and decide whether testing or treatment is needed.
