They simplify a microscopic particle and cannot show the severity or stage of an individual infection.

Hepatitis B is a viral infection that can affect the liver. Some people have no symptoms, while others develop tiredness, nausea, discomfort in the upper abdomen, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or dark urine. A symptom such as dark urine or fatigue has several possible causes and does not establish hepatitis B. Blood testing can distinguish current infection, previous exposure and protection from vaccination.

Urgent symptoms need attention even when the cause is uncertain; they should not be judged from a diagram or from one symptom alone.
