What should you know about dermlite dermoscopy?

A DermLite is a type of [Dermatoscope](/technology/dermatoscope/). It uses magnification and light to reveal colours, patterns, and structures beneath the surface. The clinician may examine one changing spot or compare several lesions, record images, and consider your history and skin type.

Dermoscopy is an assessment, not a laboratory diagnosis. A reassuring appearance does not mean a changing lesion should be ignored, and an uncertain or suspicious finding may lead to closer follow-up or [Mole Removal](/treatments/surgical-dermatology/mole-removal/) so tissue can be examined.

Point out spots that are new, changing, itchy, bleeding, crusting, painful, or different from your other marks. Mention personal or family skin-cancer history, previous biopsies, and medicines that affect bleeding.

Avoid picking a lesion before review and bring earlier photographs if you have them. Follow the clinician’s plan for observation, photography, referral, or removal; do not try to cut or burn a mole at home.

Arrange a timely skin assessment for a rapidly changing spot, a lesion that repeatedly bleeds or crusts, a sore that does not heal, or a mark with new persistent symptoms. Seek urgent care for heavy bleeding that will not stop with firm pressure or signs of spreading infection.

Ask what features were seen, whether a photograph will be saved for comparison, when review is needed, whether tissue testing is recommended, and which changes should prompt an earlier appointment.
