Which mosquito transmits dengue?

Aedes mosquitoes often live close to people and can breed in small amounts of standing water, such as water held in containers, plant saucers, or blocked drains. They may bite during daylight, so protection is useful throughout the day rather than only at night. Only an infected mosquito can pass dengue virus. A bite does not mean dengue infection, and Fever, Headache, Muscle Aches, Joint Pain, or Chills can have other causes. Symptoms should be assessed in context.

Use an appropriate insect repellent according to its label, wear loose clothing that covers arms and legs, and keep doors and windows screened where possible. Empty or cover containers that collect water and check less obvious places after rain. If you become unwell after mosquito exposure, arrange a GP Consultation and mention travel, residence, and the timing of symptoms.

Seek urgent help for severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding, faintness, confusion, breathing difficulty, unusual sleepiness, or trouble keeping fluids down. Easy Bruising or worsening illness during recovery from a fever also deserves prompt medical review.
