Dengue symptoms explained in English

Dengue commonly presents with a sudden fever and may bring strong headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle aches, joint pain, chills, nausea or a rash. A fever is a common presentation of dengue, but it also occurs with many other illnesses. Easy bruising, nose or gum bleeding, or blood in vomit or stool deserves prompt assessment. The symptoms may evolve over several days, so a clear timeline is useful even if one symptom improves.

Rest, stay in a cool environment and drink regularly. Use a thermometer if available and write down readings, pain, vomiting, bowel changes, rash and urine output. Do not use aspirin or ibuprofen unless a healthcare professional recommends them; ask what medicine is suitable for fever. Arrange a GP Consultation for possible dengue, especially after travel or mosquito exposure, and explain all medicines and medical conditions during the visit.

Go to urgent care for severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, any significant bleeding, black stool, confusion, unusual drowsiness, breathing difficulty, fainting or inability to drink. A fever settling is not enough reassurance if the person becomes weaker or develops new warning signs.
