What should you know about dengue result?

Different tests look for different signs of infection, and those signs change during illness. A positive result may support dengue, while a negative result may need context if testing happened early or symptoms continue. The report should be read by the clinician who knows your history; it is not a substitute for checking hydration, examination findings, and warning signs.

Follow the testing clinician’s instructions about fluids, rest, monitoring, and follow-up. Keep a record of fever, headache, muscle aches, joint pain, chills, bruising, vomiting, and bleeding. Avoid starting medicines or supplements without checking that they are suitable. Use mosquito-bite prevention while unwell so mosquitoes are less likely to acquire the virus and pass it on.

Get urgent medical help for severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding, unusual bruising, faintness, confusion, extreme weakness, or difficulty breathing. Return for review if you cannot keep fluids down or your condition worsens, even when a result was negative.
