What should you know about dengue last stage?

Dengue often changes over time. A person may feel less feverish while remaining weak, nauseated or light-headed. This change does not by itself prove that the illness has ended. Fluid loss, reduced eating and bleeding can affect the body even when the temperature improves.

Recovery is suggested by improving energy, easier drinking, passing urine normally and a gradual return of appetite. Symptoms such as easy bruising, abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, unusual sleepiness or restlessness deserve attention because they can signal a more serious course.

Rest and take frequent drinks, choosing water or an oral rehydration drink if a clinician recommends it. Keep a simple record of fluids, vomiting, urine and new bleeding. Eat small, gentle meals when able. Use only fever or pain medicine approved for you; ask a clinician before using anti-inflammatory medicines because some can increase bleeding risk.

Arrange a GP Consultation if symptoms are not steadily improving, or if you need help interpreting blood tests or medicines. Avoid strenuous activity while you remain weak or have bruising.

Seek urgent medical care for bleeding from the nose or gums, blood in vomit or stool, severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, fainting, trouble breathing, confusion, marked drowsiness, cold clammy skin or very little urine. Do not wait for fever to return before acting.
