Dengue fever season: understanding changing mosquito risk

Mosquito numbers and breeding sites can change with rainfall, humidity, temperature and local water management. The timing is not identical in every place, so a calendar alone cannot define personal risk. Travel to an area where dengue circulates may expose you outside the season you expect at home. Check local health advice when planning travel or outdoor activities.

Keep repellent available, wear clothing that covers skin and use screens or air conditioning where possible. After rain, inspect balconies, roof areas, gardens and containers for water that mosquitoes could use. Empty, clean or cover them. If you travel, continue precautions during the trip and after returning, then mention the travel dates if Fever, Headache, Muscle Aches or Joint Pain develops. Seek prompt care for Fever with repeated vomiting, severe abdominal pain, bleeding, Easy Bruising, faintness, confusion or breathing difficulty. Chills and body aches can occur with many illnesses, so do not wait for a particular season before getting help when symptoms are severe or worsening. People who are pregnant, very young, older or medically fragile should seek advice early.
