Short answer

Dengue fever fatality figures describe groups, not the outcome for one person, so warning signs and timely medical care matter most.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Key point
Group statistics cannot predict one person’s outcome.
Monitor
Bleeding, abdominal symptoms, hydration and alertness.

What severity can mean

Many dengue infections cause fever, headache, muscle aches, joint pain or chills and improve with supportive care. A smaller group develops severe dengue, which can involve bleeding, fluid movement out of the bloodstream or strain on organs. A person may seem to improve as the fever settles and then become more unwell, so the illness needs monitoring beyond the first fever days.

A fatality rate cannot tell you whether a particular fever is dengue, how severe that illness will become, or what treatment an individual needs. Diagnosis and risk assessment depend on symptoms, examination, medical history and sometimes blood tests.

What to do now

Arrange a GP Consultation if dengue is possible, especially after travel or mosquito exposure in an area where dengue occurs. Rest, take fluids regularly and record temperature, urine output and new symptoms. Use medicines only as advised; some pain medicines can increase bleeding risk. Avoid mosquito bites while unwell so mosquitoes do not acquire the virus and pass it on.

When to seek urgent care

Seek urgent medical help for severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding from the nose or gums, blood in vomit or stool, easy bruising, unusual sleepiness, agitation, breathing difficulty, faintness, cold clammy skin or very little urine. Do not wait for a published rate to change your decision: these warning signs need prompt assessment.

Questions for your doctor

Ask which symptoms should trigger emergency care, whether testing is appropriate, which pain or fever medicines are suitable, how often you should be reviewed, and how to maintain hydration if nausea makes drinking difficult.

Ordered by verification status and how complete each clinic's public record is, then alphabetically. This is a directory listing, not a ranking — Zavis does not rate or recommend providers.

A factual listing drawn from the DHA, DOH and MOHAP licence registers. It is not a referral, an endorsement, or advice that any of these providers is right for you.

Questions people ask

Does a lower fever mean dengue is no longer serious?

Not always. Warning signs can appear as fever improves, so continue monitoring and follow the clinician’s review plan.

Can a fatality rate guide home treatment?

No. Home care should be based on your symptoms, examination and clinician’s advice, not a group figure.
